Hey Everyone!  It is Corrie from Traveling Hearts Photography and I am excited to announce that I will be hosting a photo walk on the National Mall in Washington, DC on Saturday February 23rd at 2pm.  What is a photo walk you may ask?  Well, it is a group of fun people walking around, hanging out, and taking photos!  I’ve been priveledged to have the opportunity to do this several times, both participating and hosting and I am SUPER excited to have the opportunity to do it again.  You do not need to have any specific level of camera expertise, just a love for exploring and taking photos.  I will be on hand to answer any questions and offer tips for composition ect, but truly, the main purpose is to have fun!

Here are the details ~

We will be meeting inside the visitor’s center of the US Botanic Gardens.  There are doors right where that arrow is pointing to.  I figure since it will probably be on the chilly side, it would be a good idea to wait inside the building for everyone to meet up.  Admission to the building is free.

I will be coming into DC via the Metro.  The closest metro stop looks to be the Federal Center SW stop on the Blue or Orange Line.  For a Metro Map of DC, click here.  You can come in by car, but it’s risky based on what is available on the street for parking or paying/finding for a parking garage (if you have questions regarding transportation please let me know!)
Itinerary
  • Meet at Visitor’s Center in the US Botanic Gardens at 2pm.  Once we all meet up, we can walk around inside and take photos.  It is small, but worth the time especially since most everything else is brown during the winter.
  • Head over to the US Capitol and shoot at the Reflecting Pool in front and then walk around to the back.  Both sides are equally beautiful.  The last time I was there, they had the entire front marked off for the Inauguration prep, so I’m hoping by the time we go it will be cleared away.
  • If time permits and people have energy left ~ I’d love to head over to the Old Post Office Tower.  This is really the best public view of the city since the Washington Monument has yet to reopen since after the earthquake of Aug ’11.  It closes at 5pm on Saturdays, so it really will be time permitting.
  • Last but not least, for those interested, I would love to grab a cup of coffee with you all and warm up before heading home.

I know it will be on the chilly side, but this is truly the best time to get some great shots of DC.  Once March hits, there are so many people here for the Cherry Blossom Festival and the start of Spring, that it is busier than Disney World on the 4th of July!  So make sure to dress warm and bring your cameras!

This is a free event for all my dear friends at VA is for Bloggers!  All I ask is that you register with me so that I can have a running tally of all who will be attending.  Please email me with your name, blog website, cell number (or best way to reach you on the day of), and any questions or concerns you have.  My email address is travelingheartsphotography@gmail.com.

In the meantime, I am just now beginning a series on learning how to use your camera in manual mode on my blog.  Check it out if you are interested!
