  • Cold Weather Activities

Today’s guest post is from Raen @ Love, Life, Logistics, with some great suggestions of winter activities across the state!

With the cold weather starting to consistently hit the DC area, I began brainstorming about the different activities our family can do to prevent cabin fever. The good thing about living in a metropolitan area is there are plenty of things to do, even in the winter. Below is a compilation, sort of a wish list, that we’ll be picking and choosing from as the holidays and winter approaches.

    In DC

National Christmas Tree & Santa. The National Christmas Tree was recently lit. In the small park where the tree stands, there are smaller trees around it, representing different states and territories. There’s a yule log, Santa’s workshop, and Santa.

ZooLights @ the National Zoo. The National Zoo lights up at night for a magical experience for visitors.

Children’s Playseum. The reviews on this place are a little hit or miss, but with the cold pushing us towards indoor activities and some free events coming up soon, why not, right?

    In Virginia

Meadowlark Winter Walk of Lights. This outdoor light display has over 500,000 LED lights and display. The pictures on the website looks amazing, it can be a great place for a date night or a night out with the kids.

Santa @ the Merrifield Garden Center. I’ve heard nothing but AMAZING things about this Santa. It was personally recommended by a family friend a couple years ago and we have yet to visit him. Other blogs out there also talk about how awesome this Santa experience is.

Bull Run Festival of Lights. A little similar to the walk of lights, except I think you can stay in your car (and out of the cold) with this festival and enjoy the lights. AND I hear there are other attractions besides the drive-through light show (like a Carnival and a Holiday Village).

Chibis Indoor Playground. An indoor playground to stay out of the cold. They even sell socks if you forget them. ๐Ÿ™‚

PB & Jack. Supervised play while I relax? Yes, please. ๐Ÿ™‚

Christmas at Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon. George Washington’s final home. In Christmas decor. I have been to Mount Vernon before, but I hear it’s extra magical during Christmastime.

Play & Learn Free Play Days. This place is actually a playground store, BUT they have free play days for kids. You have to reserve a week in advance, because of the popularity of their free play days.

What are your favorite Virginia winter activities?

  • Behind the Scenes Photo Shoot

Recognize any of these faces? Many of them are Virginia Bloggers! Sydney, the fashion blogger behind Chic Stripes published a fantastic article about 2nd hand shopping, which you can find in Richmond’s Grid Magazine.

Check out all the behind the scenes from the photo shoot here!

You can also read the full article on Richmond Grid here. The article details the fun of second hand shopping, and the stylish finds of local Richmond-ers.

  • Winter Essentials via Sugar Snap Pearls

The weather has been a little crazy here in Virginia, but it will eventually settle down in the low temperatures, and when it does, you’ll be prepared! Erin @ Sugar Snap Pearls mapped out everything you’ll need this winter!

Well, in typical Virginia fashion, the weather has changed again. I mean really, a high of 60 degrees today and then 34 degrees on Sunday? The changing weather means a constantly rotating wardrobe and checking the forecast every day. It also means dry skin, watery eyes, and chap lips for me. I know I am not alone in this because I have friends who are in the same boat as I am. Here are a few of my favorite beauty products to get you through the upcoming winter months:

Don’t forget gloves can be super helpful as well and making sure that your moisturizer has SPF is crucial because, as we all know, just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean the UV rays can’t affect you. The rule of thumb is to just keep your skin covered and moisturized and you’ll be good to go! So take a personal spa day to moisturize and decompress before finals because you deserve it and your skin will thank you!

  • Cycling Around Richmond

Cycling seems to be the next big thing in Richmond! After a spectacular blogger-month at Boho Cycle Studio in the fan (and a fabulous grand opening) we’re heading out to the West End for a class at the Tidal Wheel Studio in Short Pump!

Due to bad weather for our out of town bloggers, we’ve had to reschedule this class, but stay tuned for a new date!

Leave us a comment and let us know if you’re coming!

  • Boho Cycle Studio’s (Official) Grand Opening

Friday night was the official grand opening of Boho Cycling Studio, a sweet new indoor cycling spot in Richmond. I had the pleasure of attending, and it was packed with bloggers, fitness enthusiasts, and generally awesome people.

And just in case you missed the exciting news… it’s blogger month at Boho! That means bloggers get three FREE rides! Just shoot the lovely folks at Boho an e-mail with your blog link at info@bohocyclestudio.com, and they’ll give you your blogger code.

    Happy riding, Richmond!
