Special Announcement: RVA Fashion Week Winter Gala

Hello everyone! I’m Alicia, a student, social media addict and blogger at River City Chic. River City Chic is a personal style blog I started after moving to the lovely capital of the South over a year ago. I’m originally from Northern Virginia, and I went to school in Philadelphia for a couple years and interned for a couple fashion companies in New York City before relocating to Richmond in the fall of 2011.

One of my favorite things about Richmond is the unique fashion scene it has. After living up and down the Mid-Atlantic, I can honestly say that Richmond has it’s own sense of style like none other.

For the many RVA fashionistas out there, RVA Fashion Week is hosting A Winter Gala on December 13th from 7:30-9:30 PM at Flames 231. This unique event will feature a cocktail hour and fashion show, with a portion of ticket proceeds going to Dress for Success.

RVA Fashion Week

Dress for Success is an organization that strives to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

The fashion show will showcase some of the hottest winter trends, with clothing from local boutiques Pink, Roan and Phoenix and designers Jennifer Carpenter & Brittany Covington. Still models will be a virtual display of amazing shoes, jewelry & hair provided by Champagne & Shoes, Random by Ciera and hair by VIP Salon & Salon Vivace.

There will be performances by Ameera & an afterparty with DJ M.A.S.S. Fx.

Tickets are available for purchase on the RVA Fashion Week website and include a complimentary drink and light hors d’oeuvres. You must purchase a ticket and have it with you to gain entry to the event.

I hope to see some of you there! This is a one of a kind event for a great cause. If you can’t make it out, make sure to check out River City Chic for a recap of this fashion packed evening.

Thursday Feature: RVA Fashion Week @ Can Can

Today’s guest post is from “A Girl Named Leney”, a Richmond based fashion and lifestyle blogger. She has a fantastic sense of style, and her blog will definitely make you smile!
RVA Fashion Week is a week in Richmond where local designers, models and stylists come together to create a week full of shows and events to showcase local talent. While it’s not quite to the full scale of New York’s Fashion Week, it is still a week you don’t want to miss out on.
This was my first year attending and it was a lot of fun and really neat to see the variety of talent that Richmond holds.
I mean, we don’t have the number one art school in the nation for nothing. Am I right?
Unfortunately I missed the first show of RVA Fashion Week at Short Pump but I was able to make it to  the second one at Can Can!
It was packed and they put on a great show.
The clothing that was featured came from various Richmond stores and was put together so beautifully.
(My personal favorite is the neon orange blazer and the pink and blue dress…)
Here are a few photos of the event!

WTF (What the Fashion) Comedy Show – @ Current

Hi friends and bloggers! This is Liz, from iheartvegetables and I’m kicking off our Thursday Feature with a restaurant that I just had the pleasure of trying, as well as some upcoming events in Richmond!

Thursday night, my friend Eric and I wanted to do something different, so we decided to check out Current, a restaurant in downtown Richmond, that was hosting WTF (What the Fashion?!) a stand up comedy event to support the upcoming RVA Fashion Week. Since Eric and I hadn’t been to Current, we figured this was a great opportunity!

We got there around 8, and were surprised to learn that their happy hour went until 9pm! That’s a huge perk. I hate when Happy Hours end before I could logically arrive and enjoy a drink. They had $1 rail drinks (yes, $1) so I had a few vodka/sodas with a splash of cranberry. (Best way to cut down on sugar, but still get the flavor of vodka-cran!)

We decided to split a bunch of appetizers in order to try more things. We ended up with wings, a black bean quesadilla, and sweet potato fries. I have a weekness for sweet potato fries…

Since I’m a vegetarian, I didn’t dig into the wings. Eric said they were just ok, but nothing spectacular. However, the quesadilla was much better than I expected. It had fresh pico de gallo inside, and was packed with beans, and not too much cheese. It was right up my alley, and a steal, for just $$. The basket of sweet potato fries was huge, and only $$.

The comedy act was supposed to start at 8, but it ended up not beginning until 9, which was fine, since Eric and I were enjoying happy hour ;)

The comics did a good job, despite a less-than-packed venue, and everyone seemed to be in good spirits. The $5 cover was well worth it, especially since it was to support RVA Fashion Week.

And if you haven’t heard about RVA Fashion Week, you can check out the list of events here.
